The PhD in Digital Arts may be undertaken as a full research degree by thesis only. This may be either purely theory-based or practice-led. In both cases, the written thesis must be between 70,000 and 80,000 words. A theory-based PhD is entirely text-based, while a practice-led PhD combines a significant body of creative work with a written component that meets the full academic standards of a doctoral thesis. The written research must offer original, critical insight and make a substantial contribution to the field.
