The PhD in Classics is an advanced research degree which is obtained on completion of a PhD thesis which makes an original contribution to the field of Classics.

It is crucial that postgraduate students make every effort to contact the programme before applying so that their proposed area of research can be discussed and a suitable supervisor identified. Our programme currently offers particular opportunities for research in Classical reception, Greek and Latin literature, and Classical religion.

It should be noted that applicants to the PhD (Classics) programme are expected to have a level of ability in Greek and/or Latin suitable to their area of intended research.
